Scope and ContentWith the exception of the first box which includes some miscellaneous files, folders are arranged chronologically. Within folders, the original order of the filing system has been retained. Consequently, in years 1967 through 1972 the data sheets are organized by month, in years 1973 through 1983 there is no uniform filing system, and in 1984 through 1999 the sheets are grouped by drainage name - the water route into which the rain measured at a given site would run. In this third grouping, each data sheet is listed on the annual summary report by observer name according to drainage. Although the sequence of drainages on the annual summary sheet is not alphabetical, it serves as an index for the individual data sheets. A folder of National Weather Service local precipitation data sheets from 1967 to 1976 is located in the first box of this collection. During the years 1984 through 1999 precipitation records from the National Weather Service and from the Civil Preparedness Agency and its successor, the Civil Disaster Relief Agency, were often interfiled with the Raincheck data. Data sheets from these other organizations do not always include a drainage name and occasionally reflect a drainage not in the summary report. Therefore, if a data sheet's drainage name is included on the summary report, the data sheet is filed with others for the same drainage. If the drainage name is not on the summary report, the report is filed alphabetically by drainage name behind those appearing on the summary sheet. Data from the National Weather Service, the Civil Disaster Relief Agency, and the Civil Preparedness Agency is not reflected in the Raincheck annual summary.
