In 1901, he graduated from the Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery (later known as Wayne University), and was one of three doctors to take post-graduate work in psychiatry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In 1896, he married Eva Brower, in Constantine, Michigan. They had four children: Mildred (Bryers), Harriett (Rice), Helen (O'Donnell) and E. James. He maintained a private practice in Michigan for three years, then joined the staff of the State Hospital at Kalamazoo, where he remained for ten years. After leaving there, he spent three years as Assistant Superintendent of Newberry State Hospital on the upper Michigan peninsula. In April, 1916, he moved the family to Colorado Springs, where he was Superintendent at the Myron Stratton Home, a position he held until September 1922, when he resigned to become part-owner of Woodcroft Hospital in Pueblo, which was later purchased by the state of Colorado. Construction on his Colorado Springs Psychopathic Hospital began on July 1, 1923. By September, the first unit of 20 beds was ready for occupancy; and by November, construction had begun on an additional unit of 25 beds for women. Dr. Brady served in the Colorado state legislature for three terms: two, beginning in 1928, in the House of Representatives and, in 1934, in the Senate. He was prominent in many local and national civic and medical organizations, including the Rotary Club, the Winter Night Club, the YMCA, the Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado State Medical Society, and the Colorado State Neurological Society, as well as being a past President of the El Paso County Medical Society and past Vice-President of the American Association of Private Psychiatric Hospitals and a fellow in the American Psychiatric Association.
