History

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an international honor society promoting the international and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education, was founded in Texas in 1929. Omega State (Colorado) was organized in November of 1936 and in 1938, the Eta Chapter was established in Colorado Springs, Colorado. From its original 17 members, the Eta chapter grew to over 100 members in the 1970's. Eta members have submitted biographies of Colorado educators for Omega State publications, sponsored an annual scholarship program for high school seniors planning teaching careers, and hosted several Omega State Conventions. Through the years, chapter members have also donated time, money and resources to other organizations such as the Red Cross and the Cancer Society and lent their support to legislation such as the Equal Rights Amendment.
