Abstract |
Records of the Pikes Peak Genealogical Society, an organization established in 1980 to promote an interest in genealogy among residents of the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado through programs and classes, meetings, and publications with the cooperation of the genealogy section of the Pikes Peak Library District. Records include annual reports, correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, newsletters, photographs, and scrapbooks. |

The Pikes Peak Genealogical Society (PPGS) was established in February 1980 to encourage the study of genealogy in the Pikes Peak region. Through programs at monthly meetings, regular workshops, and publications, the organization continues to promote interest in family history. The Society is sponsored by the Pikes Peak Library District, which provides meeting space and printing services. Each year PPGS donates money to the Pikes Peak Library District’s Special Collections Department for the purchase of books of genealogical interest. Society members have volunteered their time to compile records and create indexes to local records and information. The Pikes Peak Genealogical Society became affiliated with the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies in 1982.

Files in this collection have been divided into two series, those produced by the Pikes Peak Genealogical Society and those produced by the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies. Within the twelve subseries of the Pikes Peak Genealogical Society, folders are arranged alphabetically. Duplicate newsletters and deposit slips have been removed from the collection. Computer disks have been separated from the collection for preservation purposes. Separation sheets state the present and past location of the computer disks.
