History

The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), a patriotic, historical and educational society for men, was organized at the national level in 1889. In 1906, the Colorado Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was incorporated, and the Colorado Springs Chapter - the first local chapter in Colorado - was established in April of 1908. The 1930s saw the end of local chapters in Colorado, but in 1985 the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Colorado Society of the SAR was established. The society's purpose includes perpetuating the memory of the American Revolution and its ideals, fostering true patriotism and extending the institutions of American freedom. Membership in the society is based upon lineal descent from participants in the American Revolution.
