History

Save Outdoor Sculpture!, launched in early 1992, was the largest cultural volunteer project in the United States, dedicated to finding and describing the condition of tens of thousands of outdoor sculptures, and raising public awareness about the need to care for them. The three-year, nationwide program was jointly sponsored by the National Museum of American Art (Smithsonian Institution) and the National Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Property.
