Biography

William S. Osgood was born in Cohasset, Massachusetts on June 7, 1859. In 1879 he began dividing his time between his home in Massachusetts and his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He moved to Colorado Springs permanently in 1937. He was an accountant by profession and a member of the Unitarian Church. He married Ida Steele on November 16, 1881. William S. Osgood died in Colorado Springs on December 20, 1948.

Ida Steele was born January 3, 1862. In 1879 she came west to Kansas in a covered wagon. She later moved to Denver where she met and married William. Ida was a poetry writer and had two volumes published. She also composed music and had considerable fame as an artist.

The Osgoods had five children. Joseph (1882-1954); William Jr. (1884-1972); Edmund (1887-1921); Hazel (1888-1890); and Hester (1896-1949). [see case file: Osgood family chronology for more information]
