Biography / HistoryIn August 1966, the El Paso County Players was formed by Keith Willis and D. J. Brooks. The company’s first play was The Pajama Game, followed by A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Little Mary Sunshine. The Players were the only group in Colorado Springs performing Broadway musicals at the time. The El Paso County Players changed their name to the Colorado Springs Music Theatre in 1967. Rehearsals for the company’s plays initially took place in an empty loft of an unused building and later moved to locations including the library, local schools, and what is now the Pioneers Museum. Plays performed by the Colorado Springs Music Theatre include The Wizard of Oz, Kiss Me Kate, Annie Get Your Gun, and Funny Girl, among many others.
