Biography / History

The Colorado Springs Stamp Club held their first meeting in March 1935 at the YMCA. Twenty-seven members were present and their first order of business was to elect officers. The elected officers: W. R. Beardsley, president; Ruth Paullins, secretary; and H. L. Snow, treasurer.

The group met on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. After their first meeting at the YMCA, the Stamp Club began holding their gatherings at the Chamber of Commerce. Today, the club meets at Penrose Library (20 N. Cascade Ave.) and meets the first Tuesday of each month.

The Colorado Springs Stamp Club is open to any person interested in stamp collecting. Club activities include a business meeting, slide shows, swapping of stamps, and information on local stamp shows and events.

Scope and Content

The Colorado Springs Stamp Club Records date 1928-2002 and include three series: Business Material, SOCOPEX, and Other Materials. The Business Material series includes three subseries: (a) Meeting Minutes [The meeting minutes date 1935-2002 and include minutes of the club’s first meeting], (b) Incorporation, Constitution, and Bylaws, and (c) Financial Documents. SOCOPEX stands for Southern Colorado Philatelic Exhibition and this series dates 1950-1993. Material includes advertisements, covers, clippings, and notes. The Other Materials series dates 1928-1995 and includes clippings, programs, and a scrapbook created by former member June D. Taylor.
