Collection Scope and Contents

Collection contains materials from Hank Brown's 1998-2002 presidency, including State of the University addresses, mission statement revisions, faculty appointments, Colorado Commission on Higher Education reports, and event invitations from local, national, and international dignitaries connected to Brown through either his presidency or his earlier position as a U.S. Senator for the State of Colorado. Clippings pertain to Brown's presidential nomination, university independence, and the 2001 riots.

Budgetary documents pertain to some controversial cuts, including the Laboratory School's transition to a charter school, the closing and sale of KUNC, the university radio station, and funding cuts to the Mirror, the student newspaper. Concurrently, Brown cut student fees and monitored faculty and staff salaries. As a result, Brown received correspondence from both supporters and detractors, most of which is housed in the collection.

Collection also contains budget and building plans from Brown's predecessors, as well as a Senate campaign flyer from Brown's earlier political career.
