RG01--IAIA Records compiled by Chuck Dailey, has an interesting yet complicated administrative history. Prior to its reorganization in 1986, the Institute of American Indian Arts operated under the Department of Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs, Education Division. Between 1962 and 1986, records were to be removed from IAIA and forwarded to either the Ft. Worth or Denver National Archives facilities. However, it is believed that only 10-20 boxes of records exist at those records facilities. However, the larger issue, as Chuck Dailey wrote in 2007, 'the archives has not been planned nor organized in any rational manner. As I began picking up anything I could find, I took everything". Dailey arrived to IAIA in 1971 and observed that each administrator maintained their own filing systems. Dailey remembers 'when I arrived in 1971, the campus operated with mimeo graphic memos, typewritten documents, carbon copies and original materials. I saved everything because I thought it was important." Dailey slowly acquired keys to the dorms, offices, library, and administrative buildings and at night, 'clean up' offices and rooms and kept 'correspondence, memos, forms, and purchase orders. He picked up anything he thought to be valuable but refrained from going into the office filing cabinets. This 'accumulation' by Dailey, from 1971-2007, is what RG-01 is today.

BIA Communications, Financial, Meeting Notes, Legislation.
Series II: School. Includes the following sub-series: Admissions, Curriculum,
Policies, Internships, Students, Accreditation, Scholarships & Financial Aid.
Series III: Museum. Includes the following sub-series: Collection, Exhibits,
Outreach.
Gathered by Museum Studies Faculty-member and Museum Director, Charles Dailey, these records describe the activities of the Institute of American Indian Arts' School and Museum.
The amount of materials Dailey was able to gather varied from year-to-year, due to faculty interest and availability.
Noteworthy items in this year include draft and final versions of an Annual report authored by Chuck Dailey, "Departmental Task force Report on the IAIA," from the BIA. Also of interest are transcripts of Department of Interior hearings related to IAIA.
