Background InformationThe mission of the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society is to promote greater understanding and knowledge of New Mexico's Jewish history. The Society's programs examine [New Mexico's] Jewish heritage in all its diversity, and strive to present this heritage within a broad cultural context. The Society is a secular organization and solicits the membership and participation of all interested people, regardless of religious affiliation. New Mexico Jewish Historical Society website The Jewish Pioneer Video Project was conducted by the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society, in partnership with the Department of History and the Center for Regional Studies at the University of New Mexico, and with partial funding from the New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board, The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation, The Albuquerque Community Foundation, the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities, and individual donors. Most of the interviews were conducted between 2000-2004, however, some interviews previously conducted by Congregation Albert were included in this collection as well. In addition to the video taped interviews, the collection also includes interview transcripts and assorted documentation. Documentation consists of a set of 13 family history booklets as well as a brief introduction to the project, provided by Dr. Henry Tobias. The collection is organized by Pioneer family.
