Biographical NoteHugh Bates was a professional photographer who operated the Bates Studio in Cheyenne from approximately 1950-1968. Though the studio specialized in portraits, he was also hired to photograph businesses and events in the Cheyenne area. ArrangementItem level inventory available on-site. Scope and ContentThe Hugh Bates Photograph Collection contains a sample of photographs taken by professional photographer Hugh Bates of Cheyenne. Most of the photographs show buildings in Cheyenne, including the Plains Hotel, Capitol Building, Carnegie Library, City and County Building, grocery stores and other downtown structures. Other subjects of note include the ceremony commemorating the completion of the 200th Minute Man missile silo shaft, dedication of the Joseph O’Mahoney Federal Building, visit of Lyndon B.
