Dorothy M. Johnson (1905-1984) received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Montana in 1928 and was a professor of journalism at the University of Montana from 1953-1967. Johnson wrote over 100 short stories and 14 books including "The Hanging Tree," "A Man Called Horse," and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence," all three of which were made into motion pictures.
Collection contains correspondence (1950-1951), research notes and manuscript materials (1950-1976) relating to writings by Johnson.
